Our practice Klondike on Saturday did not go as planned. Two of our sleds had structural problems and could not complete the course. The Over Achiever Patrol did manage to navigate the course. We definitely need to regroup and prepare for the District Klondike Derby in February. Thank you to all the adults that spent Saturday along the course manning stations for testing our patrols. Special thanks to Rob Bisbee for coordinating the event and to Lori Champagne for providing the noon meal for the station judges. Be sure to check the troop website for photos and the results of the T19 alumni poll for the Army-Navy football game.
Holiday Party Wreath Prizes and light refreshments for Tuesday, December 22nd.
Sledding, Tubing and Skating The troop will not be meeting at Pilgrim Church on Tuesday, December 29th. We would like to offer a night of sledding, tubing and skating at Robie Park (Spitbrook Road, Nashua) on that night. If you are a parent or adult leader that can help us coordinate this activity, let me know.
Storer Scout Reservation – January 8 -10th Our next troop campout will be after the Holiday Break and will show up quickly on the troop calendar. Be sure to mark the dates of January 8-10th at Storer Scout Reservation. Lots of snow for sledding, ice fishing, igloo and snow shelter making, and some practice of outdoor skills for the Klondike Derby. We have a winter cabin reserved complete with lights and heat. Of course, those that want to earn the polar bear award can build an igloo or snow shelter for one of the nights to sleep in.
White Mountain Snow Shoe Expedition to Zealand Falls! Only 5 spaces left! Deadline is 12/22 If you are at least a First Class Scout and have completed two backpacking trips with Troop 19 and are up for a real challenge, this trip is for you!
Saturday, February 20th to Sunday, February 21st.
6 miles from the nearest road and civilization is the remote AMC Hut, Zealand Falls where we will spend a night.
We hiked in 20 pounds of ham for a huge dinner cooked by our Scout Chefs
Snow Guaranteed! No rain is forecasted!
We leave Nashua early on Saturday morning and hike 6 miles to Zealand Notch Hut. Located in Zealand Notch, the former scene of indiscriminate logging and devastating fires in the nineteenth century, this hut occupies a choice four-season spot near waterfalls and outstanding views at the eastern edge of the Pemigewasset Wilderness. The hut has a central commons area with a wood stove. We use the AMC hut’s stove and cooking equipment and have a feast on a Saturday night, play board and card games and then hike out on Sunday. Sleeping accommodations are adjacent to the main hut.
If you meet the qualifications and want to attend this trip, a deposit of $20.00 is due by Tuesday, December 15th. The total cost of the trip is estimated to be $45.00.
For those Scouts that do not meet the hike qualifications we will have a snow shoe overnight scheduled for Beaver Brook in Hollis in February. Snow shoe rentals are available from Beaver Brook and there are heated cabins for cooking and sleeping. Advance sign-up for Beaver Brook will be in early January.
Reminders: · Snow Shoe Hike Deposit – December 22nd (limited sign-ups) – only 5 spots left · New Medical Health Forms -- Parts A and C at a minimum before January 1st · Wreath Sales Money was due last Tuesday night –any outstanding money please return this Tuesday night
