Mt. Cardigan Campout and Hike – June 16 – 18

This week’s meeting will focus on preparation for the backpacking and hiking trip at Mt. Cardigan.  Everyone should bring in their backpack packed for the weekend.  New Scouts can use this as a requirement sign-off for Tenderfoot (assuming they have packed correctly and used the troop equipment list on the permission slip).  We will also spend time forming cook groups of 3-4 and planning backpacking meals for the weekend.  The troop will have a base camp which is about ¼ from the parking lot.  Everyone will be expected to backpack their gear from the car to the campsite in one trip.  The troop has backpacking tents, stoves and cooking gear for this trip.  This will be sorted out on Tuesday night.  The permission slip is attached to this email and posted on the website.  It is due at the start of the troop meeting.  Food money is to be paid in cash. Bring your pack on Tuesday night along with some recipes/menu ideas for one pot meals (breakfast/dinner) and trail snacks to help plan your menu.  Check out the links on the troop website or search “backpacking recipes” for more ideas.

Incidentally, this month’s issue of Boy’s Life has some good features on packing for a backpacking trip and water purification methods.

Court of Honor Awards Ceremony on June 29th

We will have our final Court of Honor of the year on Tuesday, June 29th.  Scouts that have earned awards from our last ceremony in March will be recognized.  Please review the attached advancement report and if there is any discrepancy, the scout should speak to or email Mr. Filteau as soon as possible.  All paperwork and Boards of Review must be completed by Tuesday, June 22nd for recognition at the Court of Honor.  Following the Court of Honor we will have an Ice Cream Social.  Our new Scouts will have a Scout Investiture Ceremony—parents please take note and plan to attend.

Participation Award Trip

Congratulations to the following Scouts.  You have earned the Participation Award Trip based on your attendance at Troop 19 and in supporting the troop with the wreath sales.  Last Tuesday night we met after the meeting and the group voted for the cycling trip on Cape Cod.  We will be staying at Camp Greenough.  We will spend the day on Saturday biking the Cape Cod Rail Trail, visiting the Cape Cod National Seashore Park and beaches.  On Sunday, we have reserved the camp’s sailboats, kayaks and canoes for a day of water front activities.  The trip will be on June 25-27.
