Troop Meeting and Campout This Week
Tuesday night’s troop meeting will focus on campout planning for this coming weekend at Camp Whip-o-will in Merrimack. The objective is to introduce the visiting Webelos to Troop 19 and to test the skills of the troop in Wilderness Survival Situations. The troop will be cooking meals without utensils and Patrol Leaders are reminded to bring in some recipe ideas for utensil-less cooking. The campout program includes building survival shelters to sleep in on Saturday night, animal tracking with a special guest, Chic Wetherbee, signaling, wilderness first aid, fire building, orienteering course and a sling shot firing range. Permission slips are due no later than 7:30 Tuesday night to give us time to organize drivers and logistics. $12.00 for food should be given in cash by each Scout to his Patrol Food Shopper (Grub Master).
Troop Court of Honor
The troop Court of Honor is Tuesday, October 19th. Attached is the current list of awards to be presented. If there is a correction, a Scout should contact Mr. Filteau via email or in person by this Tuesday night at the latest.
Youth Protection Training (YPT)
Adult registered leaders must be current in YPT as of November 1st to continue as a registered leader. Contact Kelly Sewell if you have any questions.
Holiday Wreaths Sales in two weeks!
Yes, it is hard to believe and it seems summer just ended and Halloween has yet to occur but we need to get a jump on the troop’s annual fund raiser later this month.
The Kickoff is on Sunday, October 24th and is one of the few "required events" expected for membership in Troop 19. The scouts earn at least one dollar for every wreath sold which goes into their scout account and can be used for any Troop scout activities "dollar for dollar". The amount per wreath per Scout varies and has been up to $3.00 - $4.00 per wreath based on how well the troop has done and the number sold by each scout. The remaining funds earned go into the Troop fund to help defray activity costs and purchase equipment for the troop. The second part of our Wreath fund raiser is the assembly and distribution day which is always the Friday after Thanksgiving, which will be 25 November this year. This is where we assemble the wreaths and give them to the scouts to deliver. If you cannot make these dates, please contact Scoutmaster Greg Anthony to arrange for an excused absence.
The Wreath Kickoff Day was originally designed to help the scouts get a jump start on their wreath sales in Nashua outside of their immediate neighborhoods. As most of you know we have awards for the scouts who participate on Kickoff Day! We will have a random drawing of 5 gift cards for all kickoff participants. Everyone has an equal chance to win regardless of the number of wreaths sold on Kickoff Day.
On Sunday every pair of scouts and a driver select a neighborhood from maps prepared by Mr. Wright. The scouts go out and go door to door in the neighborhood from 12:45 PM to 4:45 PM selling wreaths. The scouts return to the Pilgrim Church, turn in their forms and collected funds. All sales the scouts make should be turned in each Tuesday night at the troop meeting. After the kickoff day, the scouts can sell wreaths on their own up until the cut-off date—usually the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Troop 19 Custom Made Fleece Jackets
We are taking orders for anyone that is interested in purchasing the T19 green fleece jackets. Mrs. Jane Richardson will be available at the next 3 troop meetings to take orders. They are $30 each, and the only size that is on back order is the adult XS (due 11/30). If adults and scouts can wear their jackets in the next few weeks, that would take the guesswork out of sizing. If I get the order in by Nov. 1, we should have them in time for the holidays.
Toothpaste and Tissue Collection for Pastoral Care
For the month of October, Pilgrim Church will be collecting boxes of tissues and toothpaste for Pastoral Care. A goal of a total combined of 300 has been set. Your help is needed to help make this goal. Tissues and Toothpaste can be purchased at the $ store for $1.00 each. If we each spend $5.00 we can meet our goal easily.
You are welcome to bring in your donations on Tuesday nights and leave on the kitchen counter.
