Troop 19 Weekly Update
...

This Saturday we have our practice Klondike at Camp Carpenter.  Our troop and with two other troops assisting run a scaled down version of the district Klondike Derby for our scout patrols.  This is an important activity for all scouts to participate.  The day event consists of each patrol of scouts working together to pull their sled (most likely on wheels this Saturday) to a variety of skill stations to test  their abilities in knots, lashings, first aid, compass, emergency rescue, fire building, and cooking.  The scout patrols are scored on how well they work together as a team and on the ability to solve the problem at each station.  Patrols are recognized at the end of the day based on their total score.  The troop has been practicing a lot of these skills at troop meetings but the true indication on how well a scout and a patrol can do them is in an actual scenario or event.  Every scout should be attending to help their patrol perform well on Saturday.  The patrols use the knowledge learned to make final preparation for the District Klondike Derby in February.  The practice event is like a playoff game with the District Klondike being the Super Bowl.  Permission slips are on the troop website if you did not get one last Tuesday night.  Money for food should be in cash and for the exact amount given to the patrol shopper.

Wreath Sales are doing very well. We have about 100 wreaths remaining.  Be sure to bring in your payments received on Tuesday night.  We have our holiday party and wreath prizes to award in a couple of weeks.  Remember, you need to sell at least twenty wreaths to qualify for a prize and $ for your scout account.

Yellowstone Trip- watch for important announcements to start our planning meetings for planning the trip.  Our key task is to select any overnight campsites in the park(s) before January 1st so we can obtain a permit for the sites we want (first come- first served).

Troop Dues-if you owe more than $4, you are considered behind in your troop dues.
